The weather changed overnight. One minute the roses were bursting with
color and scent and the next day the golden leaves were swirling around
me as I stood in the backyard and twirled among them. I gathered tender
roses and harvested the last of the apples. Now the clocks will change,
but I am always traveling during those times and this year it works in
my favor. I get an extra hour of sleep when I have to get up for a 4 am
flight to Mexico. San Miguel will have the perfect temps while I am
there and I am looking forward to welcoming the group to our amazing
Casa de la Cuesta at the Mask Museum. Meanwhile I am unpacking from my
last retreat in WI and nursing my health after catching a cold on the
way home. When you get this I will be in sunny Mexico. Look for posts
and see what fun we are up to. If you want to catch me for my grand
finale in Ireland, look below and there are still a few spots
available. Scotland isn't happening so this is your final call.

Waiting
Waiting 10" x 10"
I created this piece in WI at the retreat I just finished teaching. The
background was leftover from something else and I veiled it with an off
white paint. I made the image from one of my photos and used a
transparent collage technique. Floating leaves of gold leaf and a
decorated corrugated cardboard complete the composition. The title,
Waiting, reminds me of the autumn season. It is a time of the
in-between; the here and the after.

Through Any Window 8" x 8"
I use my photographs mixed with abstract painting to create unique
works of art. I would love to share with you how to create this style
of art. My final art retreat is next year in Ireland and I have some
wonderful imagery to use. Find out more below.

Celebrate the process
My early studies were in chemistry before I changed to Cognitive
Science, but I have always loved mixing things up and experimenting. In
my first photography course I took I wanted to create some specific
alternative work; my teacher explained I must first learn the rules in
order to break them. Back then I made imagery in the darkroom without a
camera. My art degree is in printmaking and I have done alternative
photography and printmaking. I am enjoying experimenting with
alternative cyanotype prints, it reminds me of those days. I will be
teaching this in Mexico and Ireland.

Mixed Media Ireland ig
It is both bittersweet and exciting to share my grand finale for
teaching. I have been teaching in person, online, making DVD's back in
the day, writing books, now YouTube videos, and always creating my own
art. I will miss the camaraderie of teaching, but I know I will still
be connected with installation projects involving environmental issues,
growing my own artist vision and participating in international art
residencies. I would love to share with you one of my favorite places
on earth, Ireland. Join me

Celebrate the Exhibitions

I am honored to be in this highly acclaimed exhibition at the historic
Stables Gallery in Taos, NM. The show only runs for a short time but
you can catch the closing party. My piece, Night Skies Dancing, was
originally created for an exhibition in Paris. I won't be in town for
the party but I hope you can make it to the event, the catalogue is
amazing.

I hadn't been to Chicago since I was a teen and we won't say how many
decades ago that was. I was amazed at the transformation of what had
been a polluted waterfront to a thriving culturally rich artist city.
There were even people kayaking in the river. The Art Institute is a
gem and we only had a half day to explore. Fantastic food and friendly
people. I will be back!
