Synergy is when two things come together to create something bigger than the sum of the parts. My definition is a little different and I come to it from a cognitive perspective. This painting began as a background that I call the accidental masterpiece. I apply extra paint, clean off my stencils and it just evolves over time. My unconscious is playing with the concepts as I begin to focus on the piece and develop the composition. As I finish the painting, the parts come together easily and fluidly. The synergy of both the left and right hemispheres at play.

My website has a feature where you can get a preview of what the art may look like in a setting. I work with collectors to find the perfect size and even colors and concepts for their commissions. To determine a good size for placement use painter's tape by making an outline of the size you like. This will give you a great visual for size and placement.

A Look Into the Future

You know how we usually have a word for a year? I have declared that the word for 2020 is Unprecedented, so I am going to go with that when it comes to my annual end of year BOGO Event. This year would have been my 9th year holding a BOGOFree blog event. In July I held an auction for my 20th Anniversary Market show and it went very well. I have decided to turn the BOGO event into 4 different auctions. The first auction will begin on Thanksgiving. I will have one week for small work, one for mid-size, another for large work and a fourth for unframed work on paper. I will post more details in next months newsletter but you can now gaze into the future. The piece above will be in the mid-size auction week. There will be an auction price and a buy now price. Incredible values for all. I am also going to donate a percentage of sales to our local food bank. I did this on a previous auction and they were so pleased to receive the help. Gratitude goes full circle.

Synesthesia and Inspiration

I was recently asked by my friend in Australia, Marco Verdugo, to create a piece based on one of the songs in his upcoming album. As soon as it is released I will post a link to it. He asked me to create this because of my association of color and shapes to music. When I create a piece based on music I first immerse myself in the music. It is like a meditation. I absorb the sounds into my senses and they translate as colors and shapes. As I created this piece I added the wings rising from the swirling colors. This piece is made on panel and cast acrylic. It is similar to my sculptures but it is made to hang on the wall.
