Exploration, experimentation and just play are excellent ways to activate your imagination. When you take the pressure off to create the best art, you allow yourself freedom to try new things, and this can lead to breakthroughs in your practice, and your joy of creating. Today's video is one of my favorites because it is different than my usual art. This activates other creative muscles than what I normally use. When I was a kid growing up in a small town near the Mexican border, we didn't have art classes or opportunities for creating so my mom had my brothers, and I take art classes with our neighbor. She was a retired art teacher, and she had us making and doing all sorts of projects from enamel jewelry, pottery, painting, woodworking, puppetry to sculpture. This is where I developed my love for mixed media, and working with the aluminum cans takes me right back there. I felt joy and freedom like I did when I was 8 and 9. What sparks your joy? Take a stroll through your memories and rediscover what got you interested in creating in the first place. Find the childlike wonder and let the joy into your art.
