It is wonderful to return to teaching in person. There is nothing like the creative energy and flow when we share our process. I just finished teaching a 3-day workshop in my Santa Fe studio and there was a long waitlist, so I decided to add another workshop this year.
The three C’s-Concept, Color and Composition are the foundation of a successful painting. This class will focus on color, which seems to be a struggle for many. You will learn how to create a wide range of luminous colors and learn the tricks to avoid muddy colors. Beyond mixing colors you will explore the interaction of colors and how their placement in a composition adds to your story or concept.
We begin with concept or an idea, emotion, action or place you wish to share through your painting. You will discover how the frequencies of color effect emotion and assist in telling your story or contributing to the concept and composition. I want to help you shake up your color range and enliven your paintings. This workshop is a way to see color dynamics in action – What happens when you put a lively saturated color next to another bright color? What happens when you introduce a desaturated neutral? You will experiment with color mood, layers, play, enjoy all colors, and leave with several finished paintings that will become your road map to creating with both complementary colors and contrasts. Learn to fear no color.
The workshop is held in my Santa Fe Studio and all supplies are provided. We will work on many different Ampersand panel surfaces to discover your favorite one to paint on. We will paint fast and in several genres. Whether you are a minimalist abstract painter or a maximalist landscape artist or looking to expand your range and understand your inspiration, I will have you covered. In a small class like this you are able to work with your own style. I can guide you in discovering your voice.
